[The day started off like any other day for Oswald. He rolled himself out of bed, spent half an hour trying to wake his lazy mechanical cow, checked the journals and got to work on his model of Wasteland. He was just making some real headway on Bog Easy when he realized he'd run out of suitable parts.

Early in the afternoon, he decided to scavenge the stores for useable supplies. Match sticks, glitter, screws and nails... Anything he could get his hands on. He'd learned a long time ago that even the most worn junk could still be recycled- Wasteland prided itself on that art. He was just going through a box of small gadgets when his eyes fell on a familiar device. A remote. His remote. It'd been created to control Beetleworx, but it could essentially hack into most machines in Wasteland. One quick press of a button told him enough. The remote's broken.

From that point on, people can find Oswald sitting by the base of the fountain, screwdriver in one hand and the remote in the other. It's been a long time since he last held the device in his hand, but he still remembers what makes it tick. Fixing it should be done in a jiffy. ... Is he humming It's A Small World while he works? He sure is!]

[It's been almost two years since Oswald first arrived in Luceti and he's been plagued with doubts lately. Doubts about what it means to have left Wasteland. To have made so many friends since he first arrived here. Not just fans- actual friends. Mostly, he's wondering if perhaps he's already regained what he lost so long ago without realizing it. How would he check? He may be a toon, but he can't reach inside himself to feel around for it.

So he decides to turn to the journal system when he returns to his apartment later in the day.]

Hey folks, I got a question for y'all. I'm not really lookin' for one answer in particular, so be as elaborate as you like. That is... What do you think it means to have a heart?

[Voice]

Alright folks, it’s that time again! Oswald the Lucky Rabbit here, reportin’ to you live with the new partner list for Project Hydra Social! And for all you New Feathers out there, Hydra Social is a penpal initiative started by the S.O.S. Brigade. You write a letter to your partner and in no time, that partner will be a pal! Simple as that. I added some new folks and changed everything up a bit, but participants are picked at random so everyone be sure to check the list!

[Very shortly afterwards, several residents will receive a private note in their journals. It’s clearly directed to them and no other characters can see it, but the message will read the same for everyone.]

Dear Hydra Social participant,

It has come to my attention that you have not gotten in touch with your penpal yet. Either that, or you haven’t been convincing enough to get your pal to return your letters. This is your first warning. Kindly get to that as soon as possible, or there will be consequences. I am not bluffing. Don’t think I won’t hunt you down, because I will. You’ll never see me coming, either. You won’t know I’m hassling you until it’s too late. Besides, you are hurting your pal’s feelings. Shame on you.

[Characters who enter the grocery store may notice something peculiar over the next few days. That is, a pair of black rabbit ears is sticking out of a barrel filled with apples.

Oswald has begun his crusade to hunt down the repeat offenders and hassle them until they cave. He had the brilliant notion that even socially awkward shut-ins need to visit the store for food, so that’s where he’s waiting. With this perfect hiding place, they won’t see him until it’s too late.

The residents he’s waiting for are Vincent Valentine, Kazuma Kval and Jay the Unseen, but anyone else is free to catch him there too.]

[Voice]

Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, lend me your ears! It is time that I, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, announce one of the S.O.S. Brigade’s latest- and most grand, if I do say so myself- project! A project for all you wallflowers who are too shy to make friends! Let’s have a drumroll, please!

[And he does, indeed, get a drumroll. Rather, he produces one himself, with an actual little drum.]

Unbeknownst to you all, I’ve been watching the village and gathering names for the past month or two. These lucky residents, who were selected and partnered completely at random, are goin’ to be penpals from now on! Don’t know what penpals are? Don’t worry, it’s easy! Ya just send each other a letter every so often. Doesn’t matter if you use the journals or send a real letter, as long as it reaches your partner! So be sure to check this list here and see if you're on it!

[Happy Monday morning, everyone! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and Oswald is making a racket. Through the journals and later outside your window!]

Hey, Luceti folk! Happy Oswald Day!

[Pause for dramatic effect.]

That's right, Oswald Day! You may have seen it on the calendar at the Welcome Center and thought to yourself "Gee, that sounds interesting, but what is it?" Well, it's a day to celebrate Luceti's most promising celebrity... me! Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Because what would you folks be without me, right? Everyone needs a lucky rabbit in their life.

We'll start with a parade through the village, to work up an appetite for lunch! Then in the afternoon there'll be a cartoon marathon at the plaza. Can't have Oswald Day without enjoying the actual adventures of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, right? I'll try to bring some snacks, but I can't provide for all you hundreds of villagers, so bring some yourself too, okay? And don't worry, there'll be enough seats for everyone. [Because you'll all be sitting on the ground.]

OH! And there'll be a special surprise this evening. [...] Thanks to the S.O.S. Brigade for providin' me with supplies. Yup. For more info on the S.O.S. Brigade, ask a girl called Haruhi.

Anyway, have a fun Oswald Day and I'll see you guys at the parade!


[Action]

[True to his word, around 11 o'clock Oswald will be parading around the village. It'll start off as a rather pathetic line-up, featuring only himself and his precious mechanical cow. Let's see how many people he can get to join in, shall we? Oswald's playing an annoying little trumpet, so it's certainly difficult to ignore him.

Around 2 o'clock, Oswald will have set up his projector at the plaza, aimed at the side of a building so the cartoons will be displayed nice and big. Your host is nearby, standing by a table littered with bags of popcorn. It is time for the Oswald cartoon marathon! From Trolley Troubles to Tall Timber, all his old cartoons are being shown. ... Well, all 13 cartoons on the Disney Treasures collection, that is, as those are the only shorts the Malnosso gave him. Why not have a seat, or even ask about the marvels of the cartoon universe? Oswald will happily elaborate on all his shenanigans.

Wondering about the special surprise? That'll be revealed around 10 o'clock, once the sky has darkened enough. Bangs, whizzes, flashes of light... That's right, Oswald got his paws on some fireworks! Enjoy the 'magic', folks!]

[As soon as the recording starts, it picks up Oswald's voice. He's standing just off-screen, shouting at someone.]

-Not comin' without a fight, ya hear me?! Don't you know who I am?! I'm Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! The one and only!

[There's a loud crash.]

Oh, a wise guy, eh? I'll show you what- Waaah!!!

[Oswald comes stumbling past the camera, accompanied by a funny sound effect. It's followed by a loud clang. Presumably, he crashed face-first into a wall.]

I'm... 'M Oswald...!

[Slam. The journal is shut.]

[Alright, now that the dust has settled after Oswald's first ever experiment, it's time for him to get down to business. First things first, and that's getting in touch with the Malnosso CEO. Filters? Nope, never heard of that. Oswald's calling him out publicly.]

Hey, I'm looking for this guy calling himself Catherine. Ya know, the big chief honcho around here. Get back to me when you hear this, okay? I got somethin' to ask you.

[That should do it, right? If the guy doesn't respond within a few hours, he can always start banging on pots. But while he waits, he can keep himself busy with other stuff.]

As for the rest of you... How come this place doesn't have a king? Or a president, or something like that. I mean, I get that the Malnosso are in charge of what happens around here, but don't we need a figurehead? Someone who speaks for all of us in this village. ... Hm. I guess that we'd need a mayor, then.

Well, you get my point.

[Upon arriving in Luceti, Oswald had noticed quite a few things. Firstly, this is definitely not Wasteland. It's far too colorful and... Intact. There's a severe lack of Shadow Blot too and that's a great reason for Oswald to rejoice. Secondly, whoever had changed his trademark pants clearly had no sense of character design at all. He may have started out black and white, but blue will always be his color. Thirdly, there is a journal with his name on it. A journal that lets people talk to each other. It's like something out of Tomorrow City, except it's in book form. Fourthly, he has wings. He is now a winged lucky rabbit. It beats being a lucky stiff, but it's still weird.

... Ah well. Who cares? He's left Wasteland! Time to go out there and reclaim his birthright. Once he regains his popularity, he can get Ortensia out too.]
