[The day started off like any other day for Oswald. He rolled himself out of bed, spent half an hour trying to wake his lazy mechanical cow, checked the journals and got to work on his model of Wasteland. He was just making some real headway on Bog Easy when he realized he'd run out of suitable parts.

Early in the afternoon, he decided to scavenge the stores for useable supplies. Match sticks, glitter, screws and nails... Anything he could get his hands on. He'd learned a long time ago that even the most worn junk could still be recycled- Wasteland prided itself on that art. He was just going through a box of small gadgets when his eyes fell on a familiar device. A remote. His remote. It'd been created to control Beetleworx, but it could essentially hack into most machines in Wasteland. One quick press of a button told him enough. The remote's broken.

From that point on, people can find Oswald sitting by the base of the fountain, screwdriver in one hand and the remote in the other. It's been a long time since he last held the device in his hand, but he still remembers what makes it tick. Fixing it should be done in a jiffy. ... Is he humming It's A Small World while he works? He sure is!]

[It's been almost two years since Oswald first arrived in Luceti and he's been plagued with doubts lately. Doubts about what it means to have left Wasteland. To have made so many friends since he first arrived here. Not just fans- actual friends. Mostly, he's wondering if perhaps he's already regained what he lost so long ago without realizing it. How would he check? He may be a toon, but he can't reach inside himself to feel around for it.

So he decides to turn to the journal system when he returns to his apartment later in the day.]

Hey folks, I got a question for y'all. I'm not really lookin' for one answer in particular, so be as elaborate as you like. That is... What do you think it means to have a heart?

[Like he'd said, it does sound kind of fun except for being unable to leave.]

Why can't the people there leave - the toons, I mean?

They say you can't leave without a heart, but... In a way, it's kinda like Luceti. Wasteland is like a little world of its own. There's only the land and there's nothin' around it, you know. It's just a big gaping void. The toons who come in fall from the sky.

And if you gained a heart? What would happen then? {You'd be able to leave, so... how?]

I... dunno. I've never actually seen anyone get a heart on their own.

[The Shadow Blot took Mickey's heart, but even then, it didn't immediately leave Wasteland. It stuck around and kept draining the place of paint.]

Would you leave there once you could? [This is not the simple question it seems. It's like Luceti. Of course she wants to go home, but could she leave everyone else here?]

Yeah! [He says it without thinking, but then the full impact of it hits him and he starts to hesitate.]

Well, I mean... It depends. I've got friends and kids I can't just leave behind. I'd wanna take 'm with me.

A friend of mine back home would say there must be a way everyone could go together.

[She's... still not always sure things work out that way, but she tries to have faith for Usagi's sake.]

I'll just say we come in a package! Lovin' me means lovin' my pals and my kids, so if they'd want me back, they'd have to take all of us.

Mm. It's the same for me. I can't just leave my friends here. I want a way for all of us to go back.

Yeah, exactly. Leaving 'm behind to save yourself just doesn't feel right, you know? [He's had almost two years to mull over that one, by now.]

Although... [as always, it isn't necessarily that easy.] What if you could go back, and bring help? [But there'd be no guarantees you could truly arrive with said help. Is it worth that risk?]

That's... [He really has to think about that one for a second. It does have merit. Helping his people from outside Wasteland. Though, that's what he's been trying to do for almost two years now. To make Ortensia and the others loved as well, by showing their cartoons on Oswald Day.]

I think it depends on how long you're gone.

What do you mean?

If you're only gone for an hour or so, and nobody notices that you're gone, then what's the harm, right?

That's true. That's what seems to be the case when we return home as it is. No one ever acted as if I had been missing.

Yeah, exactly! It ain't like we can get help in this place, but it works the other way around too, right? If we could go home and keep our memories, and then get help for everyone in Luceti somehow...

Mm. That's also what I was thinking. If we could do that... I'd want to at least try. However, there still wouldn't be a guarantee of getting back here with the help properly.
