15th Short - [Action/Video] (Forward-dated to Friday the 16th)

[The day started off like any other day for Oswald. He rolled himself out of bed, spent half an hour trying to wake his lazy mechanical cow, checked the journals and got to work on his model of Wasteland. He was just making some real headway on Bog Easy when he realized he'd run out of suitable parts.

Early in the afternoon, he decided to scavenge the stores for useable supplies. Match sticks, glitter, screws and nails... Anything he could get his hands on. He'd learned a long time ago that even the most worn junk could still be recycled- Wasteland prided itself on that art. He was just going through a box of small gadgets when his eyes fell on a familiar device. A remote. His remote. It'd been created to control Beetleworx, but it could essentially hack into most machines in Wasteland. One quick press of a button told him enough. The remote's broken.

From that point on, people can find Oswald sitting by the base of the fountain, screwdriver in one hand and the remote in the other. It's been a long time since he last held the device in his hand, but he still remembers what makes it tick. Fixing it should be done in a jiffy. ... Is he humming It's A Small World while he works? He sure is!]

[It's been almost two years since Oswald first arrived in Luceti and he's been plagued with doubts lately. Doubts about what it means to have left Wasteland. To have made so many friends since he first arrived here. Not just fans- actual friends. Mostly, he's wondering if perhaps he's already regained what he lost so long ago without realizing it. How would he check? He may be a toon, but he can't reach inside himself to feel around for it.

So he decides to turn to the journal system when he returns to his apartment later in the day.]

Hey folks, I got a question for y'all. I'm not really lookin' for one answer in particular, so be as elaborate as you like. That is... What do you think it means to have a heart?

I think it means having kindness, and compassion. Thinking of others.

To have a heart implies a living organism made up of composite material, and is thus being sustained by the use of a heart.

[Literal Spock is literal....]

[Jeb wonders why Oswald might be asking, but he doesn't ask about it--he just answers.]

I think doing your best to make people happy and being a good person helps you have heart. It's good to be selfless and kind to people you don't know, and to be loving to the people you consider close! I think those things not only make up what it means to have a heart, but helps spread beauty around in places and situations that might not have enough of it.

I guess it means that you feel hurt when your friends are hurt. And that you're able to feel love for someone beside yourself.

[Hermes has been walking for an hour and there's not a single bus stop in sight. They seem to be in the middle of nowhere but you would think there'd at least be one CTA route that came through here.

He's returning to the fountain for a soak and a nap when he sees something shiny near it. A box thing. A bit bulky. Maybe it's a phone. Phones have Google Maps and CTA Bus Tracker and GrubHub apps on them. Finally, civilization!

Hermes squelches on over at as quickly a pace as a walking octopus can manage.]

[A good question, a very deep one as well.]

To have a heart is to be able to care...not for yourself that is, but more for others. As in, not being terribly selfish. Or being evil.

Definitely not being evil.

[He shakes his head.]

But it also means that there is something red and fleshy pounding inside of your chest.

[It's not that she feels nothing on the topic, or even thinks nothing. It's that she doesn't want to be open about any one answer for it. Haruhi bites her lip and then sighs, deciding to leave some rice balls on the front desk of the Brigade in plastic wrap, labelled for Oswald. He can get them whenever his next round of hanging out in the HQ is - he does it regularly enough anyway]

Easy! It means you have at least a little bit of health left - if you run on a heart meter!

[ Diiid someone say heart? ]

This may just be my world, but... a heart is what gives you emotions. Without a heart, you don't really... feel anything, I guess.

[This is exactly the sort of question she likes answering--and it's even coming from one of her friends. She makes sure to take her time answering so she does a good job for Oswald.]

Well, I think it means showing everyone lots of love and kindness.

I'm just gonna echo everyone else. Emotions are... pretty much the core part of a heart where I'm from, but I think there's more to it. Just because you have a heart doesn't mean you won't screw up. Some people let their hearts get so clouded by darkness that it takes over, pushing them down a dangerous path.

But there's always that potential for change, so long as you don't go too far down a dark path.

[But that's just how it works in KH logic; he knows it's different for Oswald.]
